Apparently one of the drawbacks of solar cars is that the panels are very fragile (a hail storm would severely damage them) – and there are other issues, as well, even though hybrids are being rolled out with the technology.
Looks like other options will have to be explored.
I know “hybrids” are really promising and interesting to the public right now because of the gas price increase, but come on – we’ve got to COMPLETELY escape using oil, somehow. And quickly.
I saw a show the other day about what would happen if all humans vanished from Earth (again, I think I had seen it or something similar before) and although it was nice to see how quickly some things would recover from our (often unhealthy) influence, some of the other long-term effects of things we use (nuclear power) are much more worrisome.
I wish we didn’t use the nuclear. I know it powers so much right now, but there have GOT to be ways around that. It’s too freaking dangerous to Earth, to HUMANS, and to every other living thing, in reality.
It’s good that I read the other day about some higher-ups realizing the massive usefulness of wind power – that can go a long way.
But there have got to be other options, other technologies. Research ongoing.
I also remembered about this aggregator I put online a little while ago called Human Survival or Extinction. It’s a listing of a lot of related online resources – very educational.
