social DYNAMITE

The great dilemma / dichotomy of civilization

Last words of Carl Panzram, misanthrope.

Well, I’ve been a little reclusive lately due to an unfortunate bout of misanthropy.

However, I have decided to funnel this into my writings here, and the focus again changes.

The misanthropy that I (and I’m sure others) must feel from time to time stems, I believe, from the Great Dilemma and/or Dichotomy (all capitalized for good reason) of Civilization.

Daniel Quinn’s Mother Culture. Derrick Jensen’s / Terence McKenna’s dominator culture.

But this is the very problem. Within the framework of the thing many of us can’t stand is the convenience and ease of modern life, and also, perhaps our imminent destruction/extinction/general doom.

So here we have the problem. We have this huge hulking evil beast of a civilization….. that we all rely upon ultimately for existence.

For as my friend and I once discussed, COULD one even live any semblance of a sustainable life, as an omnivore, in this culture where we have hunting limits imposed? Better hone up that green thumb.

Mommy, the firesale!

It’s like that “fire sale” in the latest Die Hard movie. (And I can’t believe I just referenced a Bruce Willis film here).

If civilization collapsed/was brought down (Derrick Jensen), we’d have insane repercussions. So the source of all the problems is the problem itself, in a sense.

“Beer – the cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems”. (Homer Simpson).

But the good news is, that in other respects…. we are completely confused.

Happy evening!
